Made between 1890-1921， these charming， Nippon ( Noritake) dinner plates bespeak the elegance of a bygone time. Softly scalloped，subtly tipped with gold， and formally arranged with a recurring rose pattern， the porcelain plates are in EUC with slight， expected gold loss and the occasional paint ding， as expected with century-old china. They bear the Nippon crown， obscured by gold glaze， as well as the mark of their importer， E. Schmidt of Philadelphia. This type of mark was typical of late nineteenth and very early twentieth century china， when Nippon ( now Noritake) sold “ china in the white” to distributors to complete， and before the McKinley Tariff required the disclosure of goods’ countries of origins in 1921. This is just my guess， but I think these may coordinate with a similar Nippon pattern， which features the same edging， with a basket of flowers as a central motif. I am including a picture of this pattern from another listing， but please understand， I am selling only the seven dinner plates with the edging， NOT the ones with the flower basket visual.
